BIO

Ryan Botha is an ecological designer, farmer and educator, based in southern Spain. He is the co-founder of the La Loma Viva Foundation, a non-profit farming initiative that focuses on strengthening resilience in Mediterranean environments through research and education. It began in 2009 when Ryan took up the challenge of moving to a highly degraded farm in Granada, in one of Europe´s most intensive and destructive agricultural areas, to explore possible solutions for the regeneration of ecosystems, that could also provide for human needs.

Since 2016 he has been involved in the evolution and translation of Syntropic Farming into a Mediterranean context and is now an acknowledged specialist. In his very practical and grounded approach to working with the land, Ryan draws on a solid foundation of a holistic permaculture design framework and employs the method of Syntropic Farming to inform his decisions and implementations in the field.
